Food Safety.

Food, safe for consumption, in addition to fresh, local, and organic, is another metric we use when providing you nutritious quality produce. In 2019, in an effort to stay ahead of regulations, Rootdown Farm Inc. began the voluntary process of implementing the Good Agriculture Practices https://www.canadagap.ca regulations for post harvest handling, cleaning, storage, packing and distribution.

Provisional steps made toward certification is a work in progress and includes acquiring dedicated systems of bins, stainless steel basins and counters, and tools with cleanable food contact services of hygienic design. Additionally, being addressed is documentation, and therefore ongoing accountability, in aspects as diverse as water sampling, produce traceability, and employee training of personal health and hygiene protocols. The recent infrastructure and system upgrades have been a significant investment of time and money, yet hazard identification and risk management are priorities for us.

If you have questions, or suggestions, on the practices being implemented please contact simone@rootdownfarm.net. Thank you for supporting our efforts.
