Finishing up the Olive Harvest

Shakin' the Olives From the Tree

Yes, global warming is having an effect on our farm, but the climate is not quite Mediterranean just yet. We don’t have an olive grove on our farm, but I (Sarah) have just returned from a stint in Europe which included attending the Slow Food International gathering known as Terra Madre in Turino, Italy. After an inspiring experience there, I headed down the coast to WOOF on an Olive Farm (Grove?), as October/November is olive harvest time. Here I am up a tree, using the vibrating tool to shake the olives to the ground, which are caught on nets below. Each day the harvest is taken to the local family mill, to be pressed into a  gorgeous green liquid from heaven that tastes nothing like the olive oil I have tasted before. I could go on…but I will let you enjoy the pics instead.
